it has been difficult for me to find reliable or consistent information on things like e-bikes, e-scooters, and other forms of personal transport, mostly due to the market being flooded by fly-by-night companies.

is there a good resource that any of you use, especially for reviews of well-respected brands?

A local bike shop is where I would recommend starting - they have to work on them in detail, so they tend to know what is junk and what holds up over time.

On Lemmy !bikecommuting@lemmy.ml and !bicycling@lemmy.world might be good resources.

I personally started riding a rad bike (Rad Rover 2018) and that bike is still going strong 7 years later on its original battery.

I know 1 person who got an e-scooter for transportation, and has had non-stop problems.

I like Apollo for e-scooters - I’ve got their City model. Manufacturing and support are based in Canada, so you won’t get Chinesium crap that falls apart during the first week of use and comes with a support contact number that’s no longer in service.
