  • I don’t know. One time I joined a game, and I had plenty of reasons to join the party, but the DM started RPing a really rude character, and it’s like his method of getting me to join the party was to be a huge asshole to me? I just didn’t pick up on it, and when I finally gave my character an ass-pull reason to join (that I could do some good if I tagged along) the DM was like “jeez, finally” and it sucked.

Like, if I’m playing a level 1 wizard, and the DM tells me I’m gonna die if I enter the conflict, it’s not really my backstory’s fault that I don’t jump into the fray. Sometimes you’re dealing with an inexperienced DM that expects you to metagame your way into the party. I genuinely thought he was on the verge of giving me the opportunity to convince the party to run away from the dragon, not stay and fight it.

  • Within a few days, someone had let themselves into the apartment and patched the holes and replaced the fridge.

It was a really strange situation. The cops kicked in our door, pointed guns at us, and screamed at us to get out of the apartment. My girlfriend had the foresight to grab her purse on the way out, but I didn’t have my wallet or shoes.

They escorted us out of the complex, and I realized they weren’t going to let us back in after a short while. I asked a cop for some info, and he told me we weren’t allowed back in, and he couldn’t give a timeline, but to watch the news if I wanted an update. I asked him where I should watch the news, and he told me to get out of his face lmao

We made arrangements to hang out at a friend’s place for a few hours, and when we checked back on the complex, they had blocked off the whole street. We couldn’t approach anyone without them getting super aggressive and telling us we couldn’t be there.

We stayed the night at a different friend’s place, and tried to go home again around noon the next day. Our door was wide open, our cat was missing, our shit was tossed around, and there were a couple of evidence markers strewn about. After a bit, someone told us that they were still collecting evidence and cleaning up, and that we had to leave for a few hours.

That was the only sort of official conversation we ended up having with anyone about the whole ordeal. We were never contacted by the cops or the apartment management about it directly, but a week later we found out everyone in the complex got 4 days taken off their rent for that month. Cool, I guess.

  • The cops had a shoot out with my neighbor in the apartment next to mine. I wasn’t positive it was gunfire, and I walked into my living room to get a better assessment. I was about a foot away from whizzing bullets, but I still wasn’t 100% sure lol. I decided to not risk it and take cover on the floor of my bathroom, until about 20 minutes later when the cops busted my door down and kicked me out of my apartment for 2 days. When I came back, I had 17 bullet holes in my wall (all from the cops) and my fridge and cabinets were all shot to hell. I definitely almost died that day

  • I’m surprised you even found the second owl fight on your first run. The Demon of Hatred is a tough one for sure, but people say he’s the most dark soulsy boss in the game. It wasn’t obvious to me, but there’s actually a way to reliably avoid his charge, and it doesn’t involve dodging.

A really tough boss is the spear wielder with his sword pal at the Ashina Reservoir idol during the third act of the game. Fighting them 2v1 is a true test of skill.

A few of my friends and I were really into the game, and we had a blast streaming our playthroughs and watching each other. The only one of us who didn’t think much of the game also didn’t consider it much of a challenge, though he extensively used Shinobi prosthetics, mortal draw, consumables, and even guides. I can imagine how the game might not live up to its reputation if you’re able to just plow through it and not feel the sense of accomplishment that can only come from finally beating each boss after they’ve stomped you into the ground a dozen times.

I hope you enjoy the last boss and it makes the game seem worth it, or maybe you give it another go using one of the items that cranks up the difficulty, and you find some joy in that. I just think it’s a special game, and I want everyone to love it as much as I do.

  • I really like Sekiro. It’s one of my favorite games and easily my favorite FromSoft game. If you’re almost done with it and you’ve only struggled with two bosses, you might not be enjoying it because you’re too good at it.

I feel like it’s almost entirely fair, which I appreciate. I like the setting and the exploration. I like that it’s sort of short and contained. And I like how all the bosses have unique challenges to deal with.

And Genichiro is one of the best boss battles of any game I’ve ever played
