Guess all those blocks had a reason after all.
Hi there!
Guess all those blocks had a reason after all.
I’ve been to lemmy since the api scandal days. After lemmy.world blocked c/piracy I moved here. Abd its a genuenly great instance, and agree with most of db0s decisions and opinions, as goes for the instance as a whole. So its just a perfect fit. So let’s keep on sailing because I have no intention of switching any time soon.
I am cursed
Yeah, i wrote it on a phone in a hury. So i failed to look things up properly
I don’t have the time for a detailed response right now, but to keep things short: you’ve probably heard of the fediverse. The concept that lemmmy can talk to for example mastadon. That is done via ActivityPub. To allow seemless integration lemmy instances communicate with each other via ActivityPub. Now what would happen if someone designed a software that worked like lemmy and is capable of reading its ActivityPub communication. That is what Mbin and Piefed are. Of course, since their communication is designed to speak lemmys language, lemmy can understand them to.
As for uniqe features, just because most things are the sane doesn’t mean all things. Everything is still comunicated via ActivityPub, and lemmy could, if they so desired implement them. The Beauty of the fediverse is that compatanility can be inmplemented one sided.
And finally, the reason lemmy is prevelent is because its the oldest. They are years older than the others. The downsides of lemmy are the slow development Speed and the political opinions of the devs. The upsides are that it is stable, and development, while slow, is consistent. Long term, it might end up getting dethroned by Piefed, but it is Impossible to tell now
EDIT: I so.ehow mest up the spelling of ActivityPub once, and my phones auto completion just made me repeat the mistake every single tine. Fixed it now
I personally prefered motion controls since i got canera control that way. But i was never capable of doing the precice motions the game asked of me. But finding workarounds was fun in its own way
It’ll happen when instance owners decide to do so. But I don’t see it happening right now. But I get the feel that most would like to get away from the lemmy devs long term. But for now they all seem to favour lemmy, so it is for them to decide when its ready.
If Piefed keeps going the way they are going, we might all end up switching over in a year or 2. Lemmy is fine, and very stable and functioning, and just a reliable system, but Piefed seems willing to go above and beyond.
I still don’z get why all the newspapers don’t wirk together and create one combined subscription. Most people would can afford one so i don’t see much money lost in everyone working together.
reddit has the advantage that you need it to make google useful these days
Yeah. Reddit is currently enshitifying in overdrive. They used to just do dumb features nobody wants, but now they are actively harming the base. The entire Luigi over-moderation this is just bad, and it feels like they want the formerly leftist site to go full maga now. and even if I do have to use it, the website often tends to not function properly these days, with the site constantly reloading, or voting functions to be broken. This is the year of lemmy.
Lemmy is like the few newspapers that fought till the very end. meanwhile the big social medias have all already fallen in line in advance
I never even realized that you could just write a old school pirate in the application
reddit recap logo. and because for some reason they want to do the exact opposite of what every other company does with their logos. (I’m a lemmy and reddit dual user)
Yeah, they are my most reliable anti paywall technology. wayback machine is down very often right now, but for the express porpuse of getting rid of paywalls archive.today works very well for me
I have yet to see unpaywall workk ever. All that site does is link you to free versions if legally available. So it does nothing. Bypass Paywalls clean sometimes works, but if you want non mainstream sites going to archive.today is the most reliable option.
true. I didn’t consider that. That would could work. Lemmy is a lot more advanced in that regard. Currently the best ideas are Discord and give up, and the original owners are done with the idea, but I could try and create a spiritual successor on here. Lemmy suffers a bit from the same isues as Forums with lack of people, but I only need to convince the OGs. I need to think about that, and a forum from 2004 whose software is a decade out of date is easy to beat in that regard
Also thanks for creating this awesome instance.
Spez was there from day one, huh. Not yet knowing how much he would later be fucked
