The podcast called Sold a Story talks about how the school systems adopted a curriculum that doesn’t teach kids how to read. They are more like mimicking literacy. It gives appearances they they are reading but they aren’t comprehending.

Thiel funded reddit. He’s had his hands in it since 2014.
This whole era of AI has certainly pushed the brink to existential crisis territory. I think some are even frightened to entertain the prospect that we may not be all that much better than meat machines who on a basic level do pattern matching drawing from the sum total of individual life experience (aka the dataset).
Higher reasoning is taught to humans. We have the capability. That’s why we spend the first quarter of our lives in education. Sometimes not all of us are able.
I’m sure it would certainly make waves if researchers did studies based on whether dumber humans are any different than AI.
We used to think some people aren’t capable of human intellect. Had a whole science to prove it too.
I can’t remember where I heard or read this but they pointed out that the technological infrastructure for fascism is already in place.
And it’s a terrifying truth. There are who knows how many agencies each one alone with enough personal information on the population to do serious damage. Unfortunately humans react to things. It’s not until terrible atrocities occur that the population will require change. Until then we get to watch this slow motion derailing freight train. Some us may inevitably be caught in the path of destruction ourselves.
So is the red line crossed yet or is the goal post once again some indeterminate point in the future.
History won’t tell the beginning of the Trump regime at that indeterminate point. It began when he rode down that piss yellow escalator.
I believed they were doing such things against budding competitors long before the LLM era. My test is simple. Replace it with China. Would the replies be the opposite of what you’ve recieved so far? The answer is yes. Absolutely people would be frothing at the mouth about China being bad actors.
Western tech bros are just as paranoid, they copy off others, they steal ideas. When we do it it’s called “innovation”.
Ostensibly the whole world has been online for enough time now. Yet everyone continues to demonstrate a remarkable lack of ability to grasp internet cultures.
It makes no sense. Like trying to explain technology to my elderly grandma. Except she knows she’s very old and out of touch. What’s everyone elses excuse. It’s made even worse because everyone else thinks they are digitial culture savvy.
15 years ago millennials were cast in the generic framework of lazy younger generation. Now we have hindsight for them to be able to observe what actually happened. Millennials absolutely became a workaholic play hard generation.
There’s more computing power than ever but seemingly fewer services than ever.
Finally someone else who gets it. I kinda hoped lemmy would have a crowd that would at least be able to talk about this calmly but it looks like it’s no less rabid about this topic than reddit.
They don’t have to agree with conservatives. They just have to go so far as establishment Democrat. The “moderate” who keeps kicking the can down the road. ‘Wait till midterms’. Wait till the next red line so we can move the red line to some time in the future.
The dream is not to become a billionaire. The dream is to become upper middle class. So you can sit in the middle and expound on virtues of those beneath you while reaping the benefits of those above.
I think it delayed the inevitable. By the 90s, right wing American extremism was on the rise. 9/11 put up a facade of unity (as long as you didn’t look middle eastern). The right wing movements went quiet for 15 years. America returned to trajectory in 2016.
Yes. Of course the big platforms actively seek to undermine competitors. There’s billions of dollars at stake. Something that really convinced me was reading about how Facebook ran VPN services to spy on traffic so they could spot budding competitor platforms.
We know reddit used bots at the beginning to generate activity to make the site look popular. Something I’m not convinced they ever stopped doing. I believe reddit corporate still bots their own site for whatever purpose they require in the moment. I absolutely believe they troll their own site. Remember spez is the guy who live edits the production database.
The account hasn’t been banned. From what I’ve seen in 10+ years redditing it’s extremely difficult to for right wing accounts to get banned. They incite violence or spread hate. Very rarely do the accounts get banned.
First and foremost reddit takes a long time to respond to reports. And then they rarely ever apply punitive action. So what you’ve seen here is pretty standard.
Criminals looking out for criminals. The Trumps are a crime family.
There isn’t a slippery slope. They are doing it. Do you need an executive order called “WE’RE DOING EUGENICS”…
I’m tired of the edging. The perpetual brink of disaster. It’s here. There are no more red lines. We passed them a long time ago. This is authoritarian America. They are doing the things. Enough with the edging.
I don’t know what you have in mind but the founders originally used bots to generate activity to make the site look popular. Which begs the question. What was really the root reddit cultures. Was it the bots following human activity to bolster it. Or were the humans merely following what the founders programmed the bots to post.
One things for sure, reddit has always been a platform of questionable integrity.
This is probably the most ethical you’ll ever see it. There are definitely organizations committing far worse experiments.
Over the years I’ve noticed replies that are far too on the nose. Probing just the right pressure points as if they dropped exactly the right breadcrumbs for me to respond to. I’ve learned to disengage at that point. It’s either they scrolled through my profile. Or as we now know it’s a literal psy-op bot. Already in the first case it’s not worth engaging with someone more invested than I am myself.
You’re a professional victim.
This is exactly how voat died. There may have been an ounce of legitimacy early on. It veered into blatant far right accounts posting every top post. It’s obvious this kind of thing happens on lemmy too. Especially on certain instances. For now at least the federation model appears to be doing its thing.
