According to another meme, anomalocaris is one of the most recognizable creatures of the Cambrian Explosion.

Opabinia is also another extinct creature from the same time period which is closely related, and was used as evidence for the existence of the Cambrian Explosion hypothesis itself, but is presumably less well-known.

I’ve done a bit of diagonal reading of the wiki and it seems like the Anomalocaris is widely accepted as a genus, in both paleobiology as paleoecology.

The Opabinia are widely disputed, with scientists unable to agree on even it’s biological make up and significance.

It’s strange looking presence seems not to fit within any theory and therefore it’s shunned, whist on discovery everybody thought it would be a missing link that would tie everything together, it’s achieved the opposite.

This reminds me of an unfinished crochet project of Anomalocaris I got lying around… If anyone is interested, here is the pattern I’m using: https://www.etsy.com/de/listing/1099142450/nur-muster-anomalocaris-burgess-shale
