I literally didn’t put it together that it was FS-Tab until a couple years ago when I was setting up an encrypted drive manually in
/etc/crypttab, something I had done many times before, when it finally clicked.I’ve used Linux heavily for about 15 years.
Same, mentally I called it f stab for years and it dawned on me after using Linux for well over ten years.
Huh… Been using Linux for 20 years, only just learned the origins of fstab.

wow, it never occured to me that it meant file system table. I feel like fstabl would have made more sense then. although it probable would have just become “fuhstabul”

This was decided at a time when single bytes for a file name was still valuable space. This is why vi is vi and not visual. UNIX is more than 50 years old :)
