My overnight oats this morning were a perfect blend, everything balanced well - sweet but not too sweet, a good amount of thick creamy yoghurt, a nice touch of vanilla. 10/10

Can’t believe it’s already the 2nd of January. The year is speeding by so fast! Soon it’ll be the 3rd. Perhaps, even the 4th or 5th? Who can know for sure.

Gonna try and get to bed now. Not sure it’ll work very well since I basically slept 90% of the day away

Quietish year I think this year. Big birthday in 72 days (I’ve been counting for the last 300). Then I finish my course in I think October (or maybe it’s November? I can’t bloody remember). I don’t really have a whole lot else happening. I’m one of those people that needs specific dates to look forward to, or in the case of Christmas and New year, a date I dread that I can say “the sooner it comes, the sooner it goes”

    Scary year, too, though

Today the Seagoons are going to Castlemaine by train. Such a pretty historic town. Will take some pics. 🙂

Watched Night in Paradise this evening. Brutal (as Asian gang movies often are) but odd pacing and dynamic with a smidge of romance. Kind of satisfying ending, but just tragic.

Also watched The Roundup. I’ll never get tired of Ma Dong-seok‘s characters beating up baddies. The slapping in The Outlaws cracks me up.

Off to bed soon. Need to get some nutritious food into my engine, while the indulgent food might be tasty the sluggishness is not.

    Night all. ✨

Sticks? no no no no no, you need to keep right away from sticks. Dangerous little buggers.

and reminded us how much we have to be grateful for in modern medicine

Raven might not be here if not for the meds 😭

How easy it is to treat such an infection, such that not that long ago they may have perished. I wonder if our modern medicine and knowledge would look like magic to those who lived thousands of years ago. They would understand if we explained it, I’m sure, but would we look fantastical and magical to them? Sorry for my ramble.

Very disappointed with the lack of news regarding morons blowing their faces or limbs off with fireworks. Are we getting smarter as a country?

  • A question for the hive mind: does anyone know what metro stores (e.g. a servo chain, supermarket etc) reliably sell bags of ice blocks? as in, one big block, not ice cubes?

Maybe check out ice-cream cake suppliers I reckon. Don’t know for certain but I can’t think of anyone else who would use a single large block of ice. Maybe the seafood trade? Cubes appear to be the retail go to.

yeah, everyone has cubes, which is weird, because a block lasts so much longer. How is one supposed to keep a bathtub full of ice for guests’ drinks over two consecutive scorchers with just cubes?

(NB: that’s not really what I’m doing, but I do need something that will last longer than cubes!)

You can get blocks directly from Bells in Tullamarine, they might deliver too. Or if you call them they might have a stockist somewhere closer. But most places have the Bells cubes.

I’m sure there are lots of things you can do with blocks of ice but what I mostly do is ice blocking.

Take your ice block to the top of a hill, pop a bit of hessian on top for grip, sit on it, and slide to the bottom of the hill.

Take some kids to make it less weird, you can even give them a go if you’re feeling generous. Super fun on a warm day.

If you can find someone with a chest freezer then ice is easy peasy.
