I miss the local communities. I like to keep up with what’s going on in my city and surrounding area. I refuse to install Meta apps on my phone, so I can’t view the city Facebook groups and Nextdoor is a pile of garbage.

I miss r/Christian, there are very few of us on Lemmy, the communities seem basically empty here, and most posts seem to get downvoted for no reason.
Same for r/Islam. The couple I found here are abandoned.

Why is everyone still obsessed with Reddit. Stay there, be here, nobody cares. Just stop talking about your ex girlfriend.
Everyone that protested the changes and then stayed anyway is a coward and a blaggard.
The mods that closed down their subbreddits but then reopened them as soon as Reddit threatened to de-mod them ought to be ashamed. They were literally that scared of not having their power over other redditors that they’re not only willing to work for free, but to bend the knee as soon as corporate demands it.
The only reason anyone should be going back to Reddit is for the porn, they can’t monetise it and it would be hilarious to turn Reddit in to nothing but a glorified porn site.
A community for every video game. It was really nice to start playing a 10-20 year old game and still find a very active community to engage with.

This has been my experience. I have known a lot of actual professional historians and they tend to be super nice people. Mods in that place are far too edgy and absolutist to be real historians.
Several of the users make their IRL identity publicly known. I don’t know if any of the mods do (that would be brave), but I don’t think they’d be reeling in content from tenured academics for a decade if it was all a sham.
