Free NetBSD server user account only for educational purposes - Lemmy.ca
lemmy.caGreetings, I recently setup my own NetBSD server to learn more about selfhosting
and Unix. I am sharing it with anyone who also want to learn about command line
and server stuff and will be also providing mentorship ( not an expert but know
enough to at least teach begginers). stuff I can teach using that server: -
basic command line - how to host stuff like static HTML pages - ssh concepts -
hosting http alternative like Gemini, Gopher etc - scripting in Bash, Python etc
so yeah, if you think you or someone else is interested in learning NetBSD share
this post with them :) ( again this is just for begginers only please don’t sign
up if you are already an expert or intermediate ) ( this is my mail alias I put
to avoid spammers so don’t be afraid of it sawura19.zofeta41@murena.io
[sawura19.zofeta41@murena.io] )
If you are planning on running an open shell account server. I would look up joining the tildeverse as a member server.
When I read “open shell account server” I thought this meant anyone can get access programmatically. This sounded like a disaster.
But turns out, at least with the respect to this NetBSD specific offer, you have to send out an application.
Yeah a shell account is a standard term for getting a terminal access in a shared system going all the way back to mainframes.
Most universities at least in the US had a thing called a Sunsite that came with shell access sometimes.
Yeah that’s a great idea! I will try to contact them. Thank you for the feedback.
I have just one question do they also provide mentorship for beginners to learn?
Yeah they do
