I don’t really understand what the point of the alt-text is, except for maybe describing the image to people who have poor vision; which is not what I typically see being in the alt-text space.
Describing the images for blind people is literally the main objective of the Alt Text, the rest is secondary. In mastodon in particular, blind users are much more welcomed than in other networks precisely because there is usually a culture around it. One of my friends I met at Mastodon is blind, and I always, ALWAYS put Alt Text in the images I post so that he can also be part of the conversation.
