Not sure I would call AI, but it is strikingly easy to mask out the leaf with a design and leave a blue sky behind with Photoshop or similar. Especially compared to the absurd amount of diligent work required to cut a real leaf.

Now, the creation of the cute design could be a skilled vector artist or AI, but to me it doesn’t scream AI.

Middle option: the design was made digitally (by “hand” or AI), and then they used a laser cutter to cut the leaf.

The lines of the drawing definitely feel a bit too perfect for it to be fully manual, they scream “vector” to me.

Edit: I see now it was the surprise third option, they’re Japanese and it’s meticulously hand crafted (probably also folded over a thousand times).

I feel like a laser cutter would have left discolored edges. Could be a cricut style bladed cutter though.

I’m not 100% sure with a leaf like this, I feel like the high moisture content would stop any propagation of charring, so if there was discoloration it would be very thin. But yeah it’s been hand cut so problem solved.
