It will run on a flash drive, you can install it on an existing Windows system in a dual-boot configuration so you can test it out as it would run on your current machine, and just play with it. It’s as easy or easier than windows, there is a ton of online help and videos on how to do everything (from installs to using it). You’ll find all the help you need on Youtube and in forums. It’s EASY. You’ll love it.

Try searching for some distros(versions varying in appearance, etc) pick one that you like the look of.
I recommend:
Fedora kionite
Zorin
(K)Ubuntu
Mint
And many more.
Once you’ve done this, download something like Rufus or fedora media write (I assume that you are one windows), select the .iso file of the distro (download it first) and flash it to a blank USB drive. Plug it in and reboot your computer.
Press your bios key and install!
