When sodium reacts with water it doesn’t produce salt (NaCl), but sodium hydroxide (NaOH). This is better known as lye, and it’s a strong base and highly caustic, so definitely not a safe compound. Edit: the other product of this reaction is hydrogen gas, which technically is stable, but also highly flammable…
