    When someone can produce an LLM that doesn’t use more power than entire small nations to spew out bullshit, then we can start inviting nuance. Unfortunately, we have to be pragmatic here; and the consequences of lots of GenAI are way worse than returning to no GenAI.

    Obviously, this doesn’t include pattern recognition or protein folding AI.

      Local LLMs are a thing, so why don’t you start with your nuance, hmm?

      Is it because LLMs are worse than the devil and are killing babies?

        That local LLM?

        Still uses that power. Still used the power for training. Still exploited workers. Swing and a miss.

      That also misses the point. If we want to pull the world out of poverty and into prosperity we’re going to need an astonishing amount of power. The only key is to make power that is sustainable so that things requiring a lot of power aren’t given a second thought. The thing you’re mad at are massive corporations putting the cart waaaaaay before the horse. And yes, please be mad at them for that.
