Given recent performances I think most boxing fans won’t mind seeing him being escorted back across the border

Am I the only one who thinks this is unsportsmanlike to say? If someone is worth fighting against inside the ring, then they’re worth fighting with outside the ring.

Surely he was legal to be here for the Jake Paul fight which was only 5 days ago. This is quite a shocker. And I question why any Mexican athlete would ever want to step foot in the United States after an incident like this.

At this point it’s they will deport you because your eyebrows look funny. No one is safe. Stay out of the states, it is a fascist shithole.

And if you’re lucky they’ll deport you to your home country. If you’re not lucky, they may drop you in a gulag or a war zone.

It’s entirely possible that this is because of the 3,000/day quota they were set. If they deport them rather than just let them leave then they can credit that as a ‘deportation’.

Are the warrants legitimate? Are any of the claims made by DHS or ICE to be trusted? This is a legitimate question because I don’t follow boxing and just assume at this point that anything ICE/DHS says is lies.

Yeah, apparently. Just a few hours ago Mexico had a press release saying they do have warrants for him. It’s been a rumor for the entire lead up to this fight and people (including me) were wondering WTF he was thinking with the current environment here in the US and Mexico having so much trouble the past few months with cartel violence. They gonna “martyr” him.

edit: he’s had a checkered past. Known to dabble in drugs to the point of needing rehab, plus court ordered rehab in the USA, multiple arrests including ghost guns, general debauchery like you might expect from a nepo baby.

It’s complicated. He’s not just some worker snatched off the street. They are, of course, saying he lied on his Green Card application but I have no idea if that’s true. However, he has active arrest warrants in Mexico and married a cartel widow to apply for his Green Card.

He’s shady, but IMO isn’t like a “threat” threat.

    • Nah, this one makes complete sense if there were warrants out for his arrest in Mexico. We have extradition laws with Mexico (and most every other country in the Americas). Which is why we know most of these deportations are bologna. If someone actually had a warrant out for their arrest and was arrested for anything in the U.S. they would have been flagged for extradition when their ID was taken. If we couldn’t correctly ID them, then there was no way for the U.S. to suddenly claim they had charges against them in another country. Any way you put it together, the executive branch is lying.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security issued a statement claiming Chavez Jr has an arrest warrant back in Mexico for his alleged involvement in trafficking firearms, explosives and ammunition while he’s also being accused of being an affiliate of the Sinaloa Cartel, which has been designated as a terrorist organization under President Donald Trump.

So is the Mexican government alleging that he’s a member of the Sinaloa Cartel, or is the Trump admin alleging that? Because the Trump admin has a track record of making those claims without evidence as an excuse to kidnap people.

So he recently married an ex-wife of the Sinaloa Cartel. That seems to be the whole allegation. The “lied on his paperwork” claim is that he checked the box that said he wasn’t part of a cartel.

Football fans would willingly go to a gulag to watch the World Cup. They went to Qatar without any hesitation. 99% of people don’t take politics, human rights or morality into consideration when planning entertainment.

There will be a LOT of visa denials to come for the games, then if you are here the week after the games, be waylaid on the way TO the airport with your bags packed and lawyer riding shotgun or be ready to loose a few months being shipped to a country you are NOT from.

be ready to loose a few months being shipped to a country you are NOT from

It’d be more than a few months. Once you’re sitting in CECOT after some ICE agent says you kind of look like you’re in a gang, Mr. Bukkake will keep you there forever. Even if you can get a court to rule that your detainment is unconstitutional, that doesn’t mean anything anymore.

          Exactly.

The place is a literal tinderbox in terms of forest/brush fire risk, and its… beyond being a metaphorical tinderbox in terms of basically being a warzone…

In WW2, the Japanese sent mini hot air balloons up into the pacific jet stream, with rudimentary sensors, that would drop an incendiary bomb when they ‘thought’ they were over the US West Coast.

This didn’t exactly burn down the entire West Coast, the vast majority of them failed, got blown to who the hell knows where, dropped their firebombs over the ocean, into somewhere humid, failed to detonate…

… but a few of them did actually start minor to moderate forest fires, and/or blow up on fhe ground in a curious hiker or kids face, from California up to British Columbia.

Everything is much drier and hotter now, than during WW2, and military gear, mass civil unrest… yeah, whole lotta things in that situation can potentially start an actual fire.

Conversely: Imagine LA in a fire scenario like last winter, started by nature or random idiots or sparking power lines, whatever, but uh now its functionally under military occupation.

They’d likely attempt to assert some kind of control over infrastructure decisions, get in the way of legitimate local govt efforts to help with the fire, who knows maybe fail to evacuate a detention center in the path of a growing fire.

Assuming that any of that is true (and I guess it is as this would come from Mexico, not trump) then this is actually someone that any country would want to deport. Hell, Mexico would want to deport this piece of trash.

That is, again, if the above is correct
