RT kind of helped to radicalize me after being right-wing for a time. The American version wasn’t bad either in the early to mid 2010’s. Abby Martin was on there and did a lot of good stuff. So was Larry King, oddly enough.
Yea back when i was a socdem teen i used to watch a lot of RT in spanish because they were procuba and kinda center left, and RT in english was kinda as well but during the migrant crisis i think they wanted the make the EU right more russia friendly so they took a more right wing view until they became full chuds
You can’t say they don’t know their audience
This. They tailor their content to suit the target demographic. If you make English language media for an Anglo audience you are inevitably going to end up adopting either liberal imperialist talking points or reactionary social-conservative ones, else you will remain extremely niche.
For obvious reasons a Russian media outlet cannot take the liberal imperialist position. However we also see the other option happening with CGTN America, which is much closer to Western liberal media in its tone and positions than the actual (international) CGTN.
This also has to do with the fact that they have to hire native English speakers to host or translate their programming, or to advise them on how to market to western audiences. Depending on who they choose to hire, these people will also come with certain biases.
Yep. You see it with Russian state diplomatic channels too. I’ve watched Lavrov inject random things that US chuds believe, into truthful statements about the Ukraine war. I’m certain Lavrov and Russian intelligence has better information than that. Russia knows that team blue isn’t listening anyway, but the they can at least play into the existing reactionary mental bias of team maga to plant a few seeds.
It’s not perfect, but then it’s not really Russia’s responsibility to fix Amerikkkan brainworms.
What happened to Lee Camp, John O’Donnell, etc? I don’t remember them being particularly
Lee has a YT channel and it’s pretty good. You can watch it thru NewPipe or other platform that doesn’t give your data to google.
As a Spanish speaker; wait until you see hasbara in Latin American media
I’m not even sure why they bother making English language media at all?
What is RT?
RT, formerly Russia Today is a Russian state-controlled international news television network funded by the Russian government. It operates pay television and free-to-air channels directed to audiences outside of Russia, as well as providing Internet content in Russian, English, Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Portuguese and Serbian.
It’s basically Russia’s version of Telesur (Left-Wing news channel in Latin America, it’s funded by many latin american countries).
It is a Russian Media
Ahhhh, thank you
