The Tik-Tok inspired use of unalive has seeped beyond the boundaries of the app. It drives me crazy when people say that in real life. The dystopian vibes really start to hit when censored online jargon bleeds into IRL. For the sake of pushing past it - it makes me want to kill myself.

My solution is to block every individual who ever posts a meme censoring words. I know they didn’t create it, I don’t care, willingly censoring benign words (and sharing this behavior like it’s acceptable) is my line in the sand for dumb Internet bullshit and I will die on that hill. For example, the bigger a threat malaria was in your ancestors’ part of the world the more likely you are to inherit sickle cell (which has a bunch of downsides but also makes you resistant to malaria). It’s the reason frequency of lactose tolerance varies based on where your ancestors are from. It also impacts organ transplant availability, because the organ compatibility markers are not uniformly distributed across all racial/ethnic groups.
