It will not compare even close to the GameCube remake.
Why would they do this? RE1 is so vastly different in tone and style compared to every RE game after RE2. Arguably Dino Crisis is a way better pick for this because it was always trying to be an action game from the start. RE1 is a puzzle game with horror elements, it is anything but an action game.
Because there are people like me that can’t stand tank controls. Scream at me till you’re blue in the face about how I’ll “get used to it” or I just need to “git gud” etc and nothing will change my mind. Fuck tank controls.
I’d kill to play this game in the same style as the modern RE remakes, the OG will always be there for you to play if you don’t like the remake.
The GameCube remake, rereleased as Resident Evil HD, includes 2D directional controls called “Alternate” for non-Tank Enjoyers.
The GameCube and PC version have the option to not use tank controls.

The GameCube remake was already perfect. They even rereleased it as Resident Evil HD. There is no reason to do it again.

How many times are they going to remake the first game?
To be fair, they only remade the first game once, and that was 22 years ago, so a RE-REmake doesn’t sound that outrageous. REmake is almost perfect as is, it’s my favorite RE, it will never go away and will never be replaced. A remake is welcome but not necessary. I would prefer a remake of Code Veronica.

The real zombie is the RE franchise. It keeps getting up, disfigured from what it was before, changed in ways no one could imagine and all we can do is look at it in horror before trying to avoid it

I almost always hate these remake announcements but this one is fine to me, bringing original RE inline with the rest of the REmakes doesn’t seem like the worst idea.
